Amy Rhodes is a British contemporary artist based in South Staffordshire, creating expressive semi-abstract landscape and floral paintings.
Her paintings often begin with a sketch, a photograph or a memory, but they rarely stay as a literal representation of what she has seen. Instead, colour, brushwork and composition take over, allowing the painting to develop into something that sits somewhere between reality and imagination.
Colour is at the heart of Amy’s work. She is drawn to changing light, skies, flowers and the landscape around her and is interested in capturing something of how a place or moment feels rather than simply how it looks. Memory plays a part, altering and reshaping the landscapes.
Her paintings combine bold colour, expressive brushwork and layers of texture, often retaining enough of the original subject to be recognisable while allowing the painting to move towards abstraction.
